Reference

Making special settings in the "Properties > General > Settings" parameter group

Depending on the CP type, you will find settings relating to the following areas and these are described below:

  • Module protection

  • UDP buffering

  • File system

Module access protection - "Protection level" option

With this option, you can protect the CP from accidental or unauthorized access. The following options can be selected in the drop-down list:

  • Not locked

  • Status-dependent

With this setting, it is only possible to access the CP when the CPU is in STOP mode.

Switch off UDP frame buffering

UDP frames are buffered by the CP depending on the communication load between the CP and the CPU.

You can select between the following using the UDP buffering (switch off UDP frame buffering) option:

  • Disabled (default setting)

Buffering of UDP frames is enabled. UDP frames received by the CP are buffered until they have been transferred to the CPU.

  • Enabled

The CP always transfers the last received, in other words, the current frame to the CPU. As long as no new UDP frame can be transferred between the CP and the CPU due to the current communication load, only the last frame received is buffered in the CP.

Turning off the UDP frame buffering achieves the shortest possible reaction time between the arrival of the UDP frame and its evaluation on the CPU. The characteristics associated with enabling the option can be critical in certain applications with high frame traffic. Buffering of a lot of frames may result in an undesired time offset between the frames accumulated in the CPU and the current frames at the Ethernet interface.

File system - Match case (case sensitive) - option for CPs with IT functions

Enabled: When files are placed in RAM, the CP distinguishes between upper- and lower-case characters in the file names.
