PROFINET device number

Reference

Display and setting of the properties for PROFINET IO devices on the DP master system of an IE/PB LINK PN IO in the "Properties > General > PROFINET device number" parameter group.

Parameters

To allow you to recognize the assignment better, STEP 7 attempts to assign the same digits for the device number and the PROFIBUS address when the DP slave is placed in the DP master system. As default, the "Use PROFIBUS address as device number" option is therefore active as long as no device number has yet been assigned that corresponds to the current PROFIBUS address.

Note

Unique device numbers

Remember that the device numbers assigned in a PROFINET IO system must be unique. The IO devices (DP slaves) connected to the DP master system of the IE/PB LINK PN IO must also be included.

  • PROFIBUS address

Display of the PROFIBUS addresses of the DP slaves connected to the DP master system.

  • Name

Display of the device names of the DP slaves connected to the DP master system. Cannot be changed here.

  • PROFINET device number

Display or selection of the PROFINET device numbers of the DP slaves connected to the DP master system. As default, the PROFINET device number is adopted from the PROFIBUS address.

If the option "Use PB address as device number" is deactivated, the PROFINET device number can be changed. The range of values depends on the IO controller being used.

If you activate the "Use PROFIBUS address as device number" option again after specifying the device number, the value will be reset accordingly.

  • Use PB address as device number

If the option is deactivated, the PROFINET device number can be changed.

  • Prioritized startup

Speeds up the startup of the PROFINET IO device (here of the DP slave as PROFINET IO device). The option can only be selected if the controller supports prioritized startup.

You can select the option for a maximum of eight DP slaves connected to the DP master system.
