Validity and module name
The information provided below applies to the following modules:
-
IE/PB LINK PN IO
-
IE/PB LINK HA
-
IWLAN/PB LINK
If functions apply to all of these modules, they are referred to in the short form "LINK".
If a function applies to only one module, the entire module name is named.
Configuring the type of gateway
Configuration in the "Gateway" parameter group
You can use the LINK in the following operating modes:
-
Network gateway as PROFINET IO proxy
From the perspective of the PROFINET IO controller on Industrial Ethernet, there is no difference in the access to PROFINET IO devices connected to Industrial Ethernet and to PROFIBUS DP slaves connected to PROFIBUS DP.
The LINK adopts the role of a proxy for the DP slaves connected to PROFIBUS DP (DP mode "DP master" is active).
-
Network gateway in standard mode
In this operating mode, you have the following connection options:
-
PG/OP communication
PG/OP communication is used to download programs and configuration data, to execute test and diagnostics functions and for operator control and monitoring (HMI systems) of a plant.
-
Field device parameter settings (data record routing)
You can use the LINK as a router for data records intended for field devices (DP slaves). This allows devices that are not directly connected to PROFIBUS network and that therefore do not have direct access to the field devices (DP slaves) to transfer data records to the field devices via the LINK.
A tool that generates such data records for configuring field devices is, for example, SIMATIC PDM (Process Device Manager).
-
Gateway to a DP master system with constant bus cycle time
The LINK serves as a gateway between Ethernet and the field devices of a DP master system. The LINK is operated as an active node along with a DP master on PROFIBUS configured for a constant bus cycle time.
-
Cross-subnet S7 connections for HMI operation
The LINK forwards communication via S7 connections.
This service is used, for example, by HMI applications (PC stations).
-
Configuring DP mode
Configuration of the operating mode of the IE/PB LINK in the parameter group "DP/MPI interface > Operating mode"
For additional details, see Configuring DP mode.
S7 routing via IE/PB LINK PN IO V2.1 (6GK1411‑5AB00)
Routing via the IE/PB LINK PN IO is not possible in the following situations:
-
S7 routing between two S7-1500 CPUs
-
S7 routing of PG connections to S7-1200/1500 CPUs
-
S7 routing of HMI connections to S7-1200/1500 CPUs
This behavior affects the IE/PB LINK PN IO with firmware version V2.1 (6GK1 411-5AB00).
