Replacing a module without a PG

Reference

Making special settings in the "Properties > General > Settings" parameter group

Depending on the CP type, you will see the option "Module replacement without PG"

Effect - nonvolatile, long-term storage on the CPU

If you have selected this option, your configuration data is stored long-term in nonvolatile memory on the CPU instead of on the EEPROM of the CP. Remember, however, that even on the CPU such data is only retained long-term in the event of a failure if the CPU has a backup battery or a SIMATIC memory card is used.

Resource requirements on the CPU

If you select this option, you occupy additional resources on your CPU. When you load the user programs and the configuration data, you will be informed if there is not enough storage space available. Resource bottlenecks can be avoided by using a SIMATIC memory card.

Note

If you are faced with a lack of resources and do not want to use a SIMATIC memory card, you can also deselect this option and store the configuration data on the CP. Later, you can then create a SIMATIC memory card with the configuration data so that the "Module replacement without PG" option is enabled. If you then insert the SIMATIC memory card in the CPU, you can replace the CP at any time. The configuration data is then loaded from the CPU or from the SIMATIC memory card automatically when the CP starts up.
